Q: When are the team trials / selections?

A: Always.

Regardless of the time of year or your running times, you can always join the team by attending trainings. We only hold selections to determine the group that will participate in competitions.

Q: I have no track & field background and I'm not physically fit. Is that a problem?

A: METU Athletics Team is open to everyone.

Our team is an amateur sports team that aims to provide sports, teamwork, and track experience to everyone, regardless of their sports background or knowledge. We participate in competitions when necessary and organize competitions.

Q: What events are available on the team?

A: Currently, short-long distance running, long jump, triple jump.

Since our team was established in 2019 as a new team; although we have sufficient facilities for short and long distance running, neither the team nor our university has the space and equipment for jumping and throwing disciplines, so we cannot yet practice these disciplines at campus. On some training days, we organize and go to the Eryaman Turkey Olympic Preparation Center for jumping training. However, we encourage athletes who are also interested in jumps and throws to join our training sessions and participate in athletics competitions representing METU.

Q: How can I join the team?

A: By attending trainings.

You can take the first step to become a part of the team by attending any training. After that, if you show consistency regardless of when you join during the year, you can gain many privileges as an integral part of our team, including participating in competitions.

Q: When are the trainings?

A: Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday.

We hold sprint training sessions at METU Stadium every Wednesday at 18:45 and Saturdays at 10:15, and we have distance trainings on Sundays on various routes.

Q: What do you do in trainings?

A: Warm-up, Main training, Cool-down.

The warm-up consists of a few laps of jogging, dynamic stretching, various running drills, and incremental sprints. The main training consists of modern short-distance programs prepared with specific criteria and resources. We finish with a short jog and stretching.

Q: What kind of equipment do I need?

A: Any sort of tracksuit, sweatpants etc. and a pair of comfortable shoes.

The equipment we need for technical training, such as starting blocks, cones, hurdles, ladders, funnels, photo-finish, etc., is available in our team's inventory and is open to everyone's use. Therefore, a tracksuit and a pair of comfortable shoes that you probably already have are sufficient to participate in training.
